Questions to Ask Your House Renovations Building Company

Are you facing the tough prospect of hiring a house renovations builder?  If so, then you are probably already aware that you have your work cut out for you.  Fortunately, the time and effort you put in now can go a long way in saving you a lot of time, energy, money, and hassle in the long run – not to mention it could lead to a job well done.  Just how do you go about screening prospective professionals for your home improvement project?  Here are some questions to ask your house renovations building company:

Do you have the appropriate accreditation?

Any decent house renovations builder will have accreditation from one of the building industry training or standards boards.  Good quality house renovations building company must prove their knowledge and skill to obtain accreditation.  If a prospective house renovations building company cannot provide you with proof of attaining the building industry training standards, you should not consider working with them.

Are you insured?

Your house renovations builder should have Public Liability Insurance and other professional insurances. If they are a member of one of the building industry standards authorities, they will be required to carry suitable cover. Don’t be afraid to ask exactly how much the renovations builder in question is insured for, either.  And ask to see a copy of their insurance certificate. You need to know that your builder is insured for at least what your project is worth.  Any reputable professional will be able to give you this information, without question.

What is your guarantee?

This is a very important question that many homeowners forget to ask.  Your builder should guarantee the work done on your home, and should have no problem putting that guarantee in writing.  That way, if something does go wrong or you don’t get the results you expected, you know that you can hold your contractor accountable for fixing it.

Who is in charge on site?

It is perfectly understandable for homeowners to assume that the renovations building firm they hire will be the person who shows up to the work site every day to manage the employees.  However, that is not always the case.  You need to find out, before you do any hiring, who you can expect to be in charge of your project.  You will have to be able to maintain close contact with that person, and as well, that person should know every intimate detail of your project. Many homeowners want to get some smaller renovation projects done at some point in time.  If you have a building or renovation project that you want, contact Fever Pitch Building, an Auckland home renovations builder.  We can be reached by phone, at 021 209 2214, or via email: admin@feverpitchbuilding.co.nz.
